What causes hunger?
Pie chart containing approximate information on the world's population (2018)
Its often not the fault of the hungry people in question its the fault of things out of their control one of, which being unable to reach food sources. Not everyone lives in crop supportive environment or maybe they just don't have enough money to buy seeds, nevertheless markets have food and seeds for sale, however over 1 billion people live in extreme poverty (less than $1.25 a day) and can't afford transportation to these stores which may be over 50 kilometers away, which for some people wouldn't seem like much to complete in a day, but keep in mind these people have to make the trip back, and have little to no energy from not eating enough. It would be like trying to complete a 25 mile marathon (in almost 100 degree weather) and back in less than 14 hours after having been starving (0-300 calories a day) for the past week and a half. That's not the only cause though sometimes the problems are also caused by: famine, ineffective governments, and bad resource management. Famine is out of the control of many developing countries, and is less severe in developed countries, because they have more resources and can usually find a pesticide or solution to stop the pathogen causing the famine. Another solution developed countries have are sending additional food resources to the famine struck area of they country if the country isn't being struck by a pathogen caused famine. With developing countries though it isn't so easy. Developing countries have less resources, and because of that it causes famine to be more out of control for them such as with the Irish Potato Famine when Britain wasn't prepared to deal with the problem. Sometimes, when people have done everything they can and still cannot solve their food shortage, it's up to the government to try and solve the problem, however when a government doesn't respond correctly or at all to a food shortage it can lead to a serious problems. This was demonstrated by the Irish Potato Famine of 1845-1852 where the people of Ireland were starving and the British government had a very weak response resulting in many easily preventable deaths. Finally, people are the cause sometimes when bad planning occurs. This is when people don't plan out their future resources and it can lead to some rather unfortunate consequences, one of which happens to be food shortage including on the global, national, and local levels. An example of how this is happening is how if the world doesn't increase their average production of food, 50% of the world will be lacking in food. People could also could also have a hard time finding and/or growing food, because of conflicts or natural disasters such as hurricanes or wars.
